The Crabapple trees are blooming all over the place.  This one is in Meeks Park, planted on the hillside with several others.

I hope you see some in your travels.  They are always good for a smile.

The catnip is coming back!!!  Gizmo is happy.  We are too.

I've read that some folks make tea with it, but I don't love the smell that much.  That's OK:  It's green, it smells kinda good, and the deer don't eat it.  Yay!!!

Have you ever smelled anything as lovely as lilacs in bloom?

We walked in the park yesterday and were surprised by all the changes in the last week.  The lilacs were just budding up then, and now they are in full bloom.  There are purple ones and white ones, and if you can believe this:  they each smell a little different.  Can't help myself, I have to stick my nose right in there and get the full experience.

Our friends from farther north know exactly what I mean:  lilacs are a joy.

HAPPY GARDENING!!!

I know it's just one leaf, but I get so excited when I see the Lovage coming up in the spring.  That means it survived another winter.  Yay!!!

I planted seeds in a pot about 10 years ago.  It grew so well in this spot, I just left it there.  The pot has long since deteriorated, but the Lovage keeps coming up.

I tried to dig up a section once, and the roots are really long, nearly 12 inches.  So of course it doesn't transplant well.  That's OK.  This one seems to be perfectly happy right where it is.

I AM A HAPPY GARDENER!!!

This is the Mullein that is growing in our driveway.  I guess I spilled some seeds last spring, and they sprouted there.  I love them.  They are not in a good location, though.  Don't care.  They make me happy.

And they survived the winter.  Since Mullein is biennial I don't want to take it out.  It will bloom this summer;  I will show it to  you then.  And you will see how cool it is, even in an inconvenient spot.

When we were walking in the park the other day we saw the bloodroot popping up.  The flowers are bright white, and catch our attention, and the leaves are so small.  They will grow as spring progresses, but right now they are so sweet.

The Blueberry bushes are blooming and the weather for the next week looks good.  YAY!!!

As long as the temperature stays above freezing we will be ok.  This is such an exciting time of year;  we never know what to expect.  But we are hopeful that we will have warmish nights, and get peaches, pears, and blueberries.

The apple trees have just started to leaf out.  I will show you when they get bigger.

I just want to show you that my Redbud Tree is blooming.  It is the most beautiful color of pink and purple.

We love this tree.  It grew from a seed that flew across the driveway about 10 years ago.  And it is as pretty as the mother tree, who fell down last year.  :(

Look around when you are out and about, and when you see pretty purple trees, they are probably Redbuds.

Oh, the weeping cherries are so pretty;  they take my breath away.  They are blooming right now.

I hope you have some in your neighborhood to make you smile.

Our fruiting pear trees bloom at the same time as the Bradford Pears, so they are in full bloom now too.  Their growth habit is a little different than the flowering pears:  they have more vertical branches.  You can see that in this picture.

Now we just keep our fingers crossed and hope that our weather stays warm, and above freezing.

We are hoping to have another year like we had last year when all the trees in the orchard gave us fruit.

HAPPY GARDENING!!!
