We hated to take down the flag and soldiers, but it's a new month. And it's almost summer. Time for something festive.
I hope it makes you smile.

The rest is from Farmers Almanac:
Why Is The Poppy Associated With Memorial Day?
Poppies are associated with those who died during wartime since World War I.
In the U.S., people wear the red poppy on Memorial Day to honor those who died trying to protect the country, according to The Department of Veterans Affairs. In Canada, poppies are worn on Remembrance Day, November 11th.
The red color is not a symbol of blood, death, or support for war. Instead, poppies were the only flowers that grew in war-torn battlefields. When the countrysides were nothing but mud and devastation, poppy flowers sprouted up and flourished. The sight of the red poppies inspired one Canadian soldier, Colonel John McCrae, to pen a poem in May 1915:
In Flanders Fields
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly.
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
Colonel John McCrae
That's your history lesson for this holiday. You're welcome.

It's almost Memorial Day, the unofficial beginning of summer. Time for a picnic with our neighbors.
I hope you are planning to come to the pavilion this afternoon at 4 o'clock. We will be set up and ready for a summer picnic.
The grill will be ready; just bring whatever you want to cook and a dish to share.
Let's all pray for nice weather. See you soon.
HAPPY MAY!!!

I have probably shown you this before, but it is a favorite image, so I thought you might like to see it again.
Momma and me having a walk on the boardwalk at Betsy's.
Even though we don't mail cards to our Moms anymore, we will still be celebrating Mother's Day. And remembering how fortunate we are.
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!

April showers brought May flowers. Same flowers, but new haybale.
As soon as we finished April's display, we started thinking about what to do next. Jon suggested a sun with rays. So we got busy cutting and painting the rays. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but yesterday when we went down to install them, we couldn't cut holes into the haybale. The hay is so tightly packed, we just couldn't cut deeply enough. (Hahaha, I say "WE".) We ALL know what that means: Jon, cause he does all the hard work. I just paint.
So we came back home and collected more tools: a big knife, a pruning saw, a machete. He utilized all of them to install these 9 rays. It took about 45 minutes!!!
We learned not to try to do THAT again. Stick to paint and cute cutouts that can be screwed into the hay.
We hope you like seeing our work. We love doing it!!!
HAPPY SPRING!!!

Today is my birthday, so if you see me on a walk, be nice. That's all I ever want for my birthday: for people to be nice.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!!

Woohoo!! We noticed that the pine trees are in pollen stage right now.
I'm not sure if this kind of pollen causes allergic reactions, but it sure covers our cars and coats the furniture in our house.
Time to get busy dusting...every day. Should end by June.
HAPPY SPRING!!!
