This is what real loaves of bread look like at our house.  A bit smaller than a bale of hay, and definitely more tasty.

In 2020, when we weren't participating in happy hours or dinner parties, we would make bread every Sunday, and deliver it to our friends.  One week I would deliver, the next week Jon would deliver.  That way we got to sorta keep up with folks, and let them know we were thinking about them.  We also were able to keep our distance and still show love.

I have a little bread warmer stone in my kitchen that says:  Bread is the symbol of friendship and hospitality.

We love making bread, and sharing it with our friends.  It's still everybody's favorite thing for me to bring to a dinner party.

HAPPY FALL!!!

Thank you to all our friends and family who called to check on us here in western North Carolina.

I am here to report that we are all fine.  We got about 7 inches of much needed rain over three days, so the garden is happy.  We walked down to the creek yesterday expecting it to be running with lots of water, and it was just a trickle.  It has been so dry lately that all that water must have soaked down into the ground.  Good news for the aquifer.  We also expected to see trees down, but there wasn't much wind, so we didn't see any.  It appears that hurricane Helene bypassed us.

Asheville and the surrounding areas weren't so lucky.  They suffered major damage and devastation.

Our prayers are with them.

Now here is a blast from the past!!!  This was Granby High School, in Norfolk, VA, about 1961 or 1962.  We were cheerleaders.  My big sister Linda is the cute one all the way to the top left.  And I am the other cute one down front.

She is still my biggest cheerleader, and I am hers.

LOVE RUNS DEEP!!!

Today is Flag Day.  A special day to fly our flags proudly.  I read this on The Farmers Almanac and thought you might be interested:

There were few public ceremonies that honored the flag until June 14, 1877, when it was flown from every government building for the centennial of the flag’s adoption. After that, many citizens and organizations advocated the adoption of a national day of commemoration for the flag. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson unofficially declared June 14 as Flag Day.

I know that most of you have seen George and his tractor at one time or another.  He often does chores in the neighborhood, like remove fallen trees, move big rocks, haul away the haybale, and other jobs too big for “the guys” to handle.

But I wanted to show you what a good sport he is:  helping us push up our redbud tree.  It didn’t work, but he did give it a try.  And we really appreciated that.

THANKS, GEORGE!!!

Our beautiful, big redbud tree fell over during that storm earlier in the week.  It made us both so sad.

We thought maybe George could push it back up with his tractor.  He came over, and tried from several different angles.  But the root ball was just too weak to hold it up.  So, Jon cut it up, and George straightened the stump with his tractor.

The next step was to dig up a two year old seedling from the other side of the second redbud tree.  We are going to nurture the baby tree a couple months, and then plant it in the heartwood of the stump.

I’ll let you know how that works out.

HAPPY GARDENING!!!

Memorial Day is a day to remember those who gave their lives in service to our country.

We can’t thank them to their faces, but we can remember their sacrifices, and be grateful.

I copied this from the Farmers Almanac.  It is a history of Mother’s Day.  I always like reading about the history.  Thought you might too.

Sorry for all the ads, but here’s the link:  https://www.farmersalmanac.com/when-mothers-day

It’s nice to know the history, but even better to remember your mother.  Ours was the best!!!

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!!!
